Australia - Reusable coffee capsules

2019-10-23

Did you know that a disposable plastic capsule breaks down over 500 years, releasing harmful amounts of methane? What's more, only 5% of capsule packaging produced is made from recycled materials.

In response to the problem of generating additional tonnes of garbage, two Australian companies were created that produce environmentally friendly capsules.

Crema Joe (https://www.cremajoe.com.au/) offers reusable stainless steel capsules with a sticker called a sealing lid. The container can be filled with your favorite ground coffee. After use, the lid can be placed in a suitable container for recyclable waste. Reusable containers are compatible with e.g. a Nespresso coffee machine.

Eco Caffe (https://www.ecocaffe.com.au/) offers capsules made of vegetable fibers and starch. They can be disposed of in domestic or green waste containers, and under appropriate conditions the capsules are biodegradable within 180 days. The entire range is ethically sourced and is compatible with all Nespresso machines.
